Having Efficient Meetings

-Meetings with C-Suites:
When in this position, executives don’t usually have a lot of time, so being concise, prompt & to the point are critical. If you are the executive, remind people of how much time is alloted, without being a jerk. Hit as many trajectories as possible in the time frame. What does that mean? Everyone should know metrics for each item by the time they leave, as well as knowing their place in the cogs of what’s required.

-Meetings with Peers & Teams: These can get “squirrely” because with peers there can be lots of “water cooler talk”! Remember, to get anything accomplished management needs to take the reigns, but with every meeting there needs to be an agenda to stay on topic & keep meeting time frames at a minimum. While it really does build comradery & culture to know what’s going on in each other’s lives, Metric & KPI meetings should be straight forward & growth oriented. Do lunches as a team, have “team building” experiences & acknowledge wins as a team, but keep your meetings short! No one likes meetings. Why? Because what is discussed in most meetings could be an email…the meme is real! K.I.S.S = Keep It Simple Sweety!

-Individual meetings or 1:1’s: When having one on one meetings, I have been known to be human. I don’t have a strict way of doing things. I find that people open up & share more of their personality as we talk not just business but about life, how they intersect, & how to “balance” them. Utilizing this time to learn about clients & customers will help you know if they are taking action & progressing, it will give you a sense of why they may not be taking action, are scared or if they are making excuses you can eradicate!

What kind of meetings do you tend to have? Do you have “squirrely” meetings or are you the “get to the point” person…like me?

Make it a great day!
